April and Junip

A slice of life story about misfit teenagers, April and Junip who spend their days drinking, smoking weed and getting bullied at school until spring break when they find a trunk full of journals written by a high school girl from the 1980's.

Filmed during the Summer of 2013 all over the Bay Area from Crockett down to Santa Cruz. We were a solid crew of about 10-15 people ready to shine light on this odd ball femme perspective. We had the exquisite talents of Gillian Rude to help us find our beat, being 15 years old when she filmed April and Junip she held a special bond with these girls that no other could be trusted with.

We managed to rent out a trailer for a week where we filmed for 5 days straight working and living on set surviving off of Taco Bell and hella hot sauce. We were given permission to any room at CCSF, I chose the one where I took most of my beginning film classes. We took over Mare Island and made it into our sparkling landfill sanctuary because out of the 6 junkyards I scouted none would accept the possible liabilities.
