L'empress Des Papillons
This was made inspired by a character in a short form script I wrote and published, L’empress Des Papillons. A story of an au pair in 1920’s France struggling with depression and working through with the language and cultural differences. Through a normal day with the baby a cat headed woman takes our au pair on a trip to the moon to rid her of the voices that keep her from living her life fully.
Each character she meets is a different aspect of herself, her anger, her joy, her sadness. L’empress des Papillons is her sadness, she was once the happiest girl in this universe until one day she was thrown into the fairy prison where faulty twigs could easily be broken to set herself free though she confuses these branches for steel and continues to cry in the corner.
I intended on actually creating this film into reality, taking the first steps in designing costumes. I held onto this dress for 2 years, hanging in my creates closet. I think it’s time to set her free.
